DRDAR MEC Nomakhosazana Meth today visited the Magwa-Majola Tea Estate today which is funded by the Department. The purpose of the MEC’s visit to Magwa was to engage with farmers, traditional leaders and employees of the Magwa-Majola Tea estate and the immediate community on issues pertaining to land and the estate itself. The MEC also visited Magwa Falls which are part of the tourism attraction in the area.
In her policy speech delivered at the Provincial Legislature recently the MEC said the Department through the Eastern Cape Rural Development Agency (ECRDA) was working to turn the Magwa-Majola and Lambasi valley between Lusikisiki and Port St. Johns into a dynamic integrated local economy comprising of three anchoring enterprises which are:
Introduction of high value crops such as Avocado, cannabis, macadamia and other high value crops.
Development of the valley into a buzzing eco-tourism enclave.
The current allocation for the estates is R33.9 million to cover operations (salaries and wages), procurement of tea bagging equipment.
