Frank discussions by a provincial government delegation led by MEC for Rural Development and Agrarian Reform, Nomakhasazana Meth and other education stakeholders yielded positive results for the Manzolwandla Sandile Senior Secondary School in Mqanduli.

The discussions were part of the oversight visits by the Exco to establish the schools’ readiness for the 2020 academic year.

The stakeholders appraised Meth of Mqanduli Sandile S. S. S’ challenges which impacted negatively on the school’s learning like scholar transport, unavailability of a Maths teacher and resources for both computer and science labs.

But through the engagements the O.R Tambo District office of the Department of Education confirmed that scholar transport would be made available to deserving learners at the beginning of April.

Principal at the school, Mfuneko Mabhamba, has been teaching Maths since August last year following the resignation of the school’s only Maths teacher at Grade 12 level.

Education Department’s O.R Tambo District Office acting Director Fundiswa Makrwede committed that a roving Maths teacher would assume duties on Monday next week while the school and the department work on recruiting a permanent educator for the critical subject.

Mqanduli Sandile S. S. S obtained an average matric pass of 67.5% in the 2019 academic year, an improvement of 3% from last year’s 62.5%.

MEC Meth, said all the issues raised during the discussions would be presented before the provincial cabinet.

“Some of the challenges raised here talk to the policies of our government and need the entire cabinet to apply itself on and come up with solutions that will take us forward. And these issues will be discussed by the provincial parliament,” said Meth.
